The Story of Prince Prahlad - Quick version

It started in Vaikuntha, the Spiritual World when 2 servants of Vishnu named Jaya and Vijaya noticed that there is something in their Master's heart. They can understand that the the Lord has some desire to taste the mellows of chivalry. They wanted to fulfill His desire but they began to worry because in Vaikuntha there is no fighting and certainly it is not possible for them to fight with their Lord.

At once the Supreme Lord understood His servants' desire so by His illusory energy called Yogamaya, He has arranged that they will have a chance to fight and satisfy HIm - not in Vaikuntha but in a special pastime in the material world.

So very shortly Yogamaya has attracted the four Kumaras to reach the gates of Vaikuntha. Jaya and Vijay stopped the 4 little naked boys from entering and although Vaikuntha is a kingdom beyond anger, by the influence of Yogamaya these 4 little saints became angry and immediately cursed Jaya and Vijay to take birth as demons in the material world.

This was how two great demons took birth in planet earth. They were known as Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashipu. Just by their birth, very inauspicious omen were seen everywhere.

Later on, Lord Vishnu incarnated as Lord Varaha and fought to His satisfaction with the demon Hiranyaksha. Upon Hiranyaksha's death, his brother vowed to take revenge and kill Vishnu.

He performed severe austerities for 60,000 years that Lord Brahma the creator of the Universe had to give him a boon. He asked to be immortal but Lord Brahma cannot grant this because even he is not immortal. So Hiranyakashipu thought of all possible ways of dying and asked that this would not happen to him. He asked that he could not be killed on land, water, air or fire, he could not be killed inside or outside, he could not be killed in the day or night, he could not be killed by any weapon, or by any animal or human, by any living or non-living, etc.

In this way, Hiranyakashipu thought he was immortal and started to terrorize the whole universe. He thought he was the most powerful being and indeed he conquered everyone -- everyone except his own son, the great prince Prahlad Maharaja.

Find out the whole story how Prahlad became victorious over his demoniac father and how Lord Vishnu appeared as a half-man half lion incarnation known as Lord Nrisimhadev to kill Hiranyakashipu without violating the boon of Lord Brahma.

Obviously our 4-minute little movie is insufficient but you can read the story in the very ancient book known as Srimad Bhagavatam.

To those who have read the story, you may share some comments to spice up our little movie...

(By the way, this video was produced and directed by my brother Jayagopal Prabhu.)
